Dr. Michael Katchabaw

Dr. Michael Katchabaw is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. His research interests include various aspects of game design and development, including character behaviour in games, storytelling in games, the use of music in games, and a variety of other areas. He has successfully led many research projects in the field of gaming, and has numerous publications in the area. He is actively involved in the key professional organizations in this area, the IEEE, ACM, IGDA, and CGSA, and has played key roles in leading conferences and journal publications related to gaming. He is currently on sabbatical at Big Blue Bubble, a London video game development company, engaged in various design and development activities for commercial video games.

Dr. Robert Mercer

Dr. Robert Mercer is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. His research interests revolve around various aspects of artificial intelligence, with many applications in the area of game development. He has numerous publications in the area of artificial intelligence and is well known and well respected in this area.

Dr. Mark Daley

Dr. Mark Daley is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. His varied research interests include aspects of bioinformatics and biocomputing, as well as aspects of entertainment computing, including digital music and game development. Along with Dr. Katchabaw, Dr. Daley was instrumental in developing Western’s Minor in Game Development program, and helped found the Digital Recreation, Entertainment, Art, and Media (DREAM) group at Western.

Dr. Kamran Sedig

Dr. Kamran Sedig is an Associate Professor cross appointed to both the Department of Computer Science and the Faculty of Information and Media Studies at the University of Western Ontario. His research interests include many aspects of human-computer interaction, especially the use of computers and games in educational settings and processes. He has numerous publications in this area and is passionate about the union of education and gaming.

Cameron Barber

Cameron Barber is a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario, having received his Masters in Computer Science from Western. His current research focus is on storytelling for games, having previously worked on advanced rendering techniques and dialogue systems for games. He has served as a teaching assistant for several years for many of the game development courses at Western, and is very knowledgeable in the area of gaming.

Gavan Acton

Gavan Acton is a MSc candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. His current research focus is on decision making processes for believable characters in video games, as well as characters that respect story and narrative structures in their decision making processes. Previously, he led the log2n team in the development of the award-winning game Flux that won the award for “Greatest Design and Innovation” at Dare to be Digital 2006, as well as awards “People’s Choice” and “Game Technology and Design” at FuturePlay 2006. For his efforts, he personally received the “Best Team Leader” at Dare to be Digital 2006.

Adam Rankin

Adam Rankin is a MSc candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. His current research focus is on performance and scalability of artificial intelligence systems for video games. He is knowledgeable in both systems performance and game development, and is very passionate about gaming in general.

Jiaming You

Jiaming You is a MSc candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. His current research focus is on the use of emergence to create realistic character behaviour for video games. He is very passionate about game development and very well read in the area.

Jamie Fraser

Jamie Fraser is a MSc candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. His current research focus is on the tuning of artificial intelligence to enhance playability and end-user satisfaction of video games. He is currently completing his studies while working as a programmer for a leading game development studio.

Christine Bailey

Christine Bailey is a recent MSc graduate from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. Her research introduced the use of emergence to create believable non player characters for video games, with multiple papers based on this and her previous research in the area. She is currently a game programmer at a leading game development studio.
